Ainslie heads off Kiwis
Sir Ben Ainslie mastered the conditions as Great Britain headed off the Kiwis and took control of the inaugural Dubai SailGP yesterday. On a day of light winds and tight racing, the Brits sit at the top of the leaderboard, five points clear of Peter Burling’s New Zealand and Jimmy Spithill’s United States. However, sitting second in the championship standings, New Zealand could close the gap in the title race, following a difficult day for series leaders Australia, with Tom Slingsby’s team ending the day in eighth spot of nine. Just two points separate second spot through seventh, though, after Canada claimed victory in the day’s opening race, before Ainslie steered his side from sixth in that one to back-toback victories.
