Three die in crash

All roads reopened late on Saturday night after a two-vehicle crash in Whangārei left three dead in the afternoon. The collision took place on State Highway 1, between Saleyards and Richards roads in Kauri, about 4.10pm, police said. Three people died at the scene, and another was taken to hospital in a serious condition. Another person suffered minor injuries. In Christchurch, a driver crashed into a house and died at the scene. The car drove into the front of the house on Ruru Rd, Bromley, about 12.10am yesterday. Homeowner Paul, who did not give his surname, said the impact when the car hit his house was similar to the September 2010 earthquake. Details of the male driver had not been released.
