Marist men on top

Marist are unbeaten on top of the men’s one-day competitio­n after a three-wicket win over Palmerston at Manawaroa Park.

Despite wet weather delaying and shortening games, an almost full round was played on Saturday, with only one women’s game abandoned in Dannevirke.

Marist won the toss and put Palmerston into bat and the red caps scored 134-9 from their 46 overs. The Marist seamers made early inroads and Palmerston were battling at 40-4 and 53-3.

No 4 Rob Sheary hung around and was helped by Barry Lyver down the order, who scored 31 not out.

Paceman Parmveer Kharoud and spinner Nic Carter took two wickets each for Marist.

In reply, Marist opener Whetu na Nagara scored 54 to help knock off most of the runs as they reached 137-7 in 32.3 overs. Arana Noema-Barnett scored 20 and Matt Wells made 26 not out.

Gurpreet Singh picked up two wickets for Palmerston.

A half century from Trent McGrath guided Old Boys to a four-wicket win over Feilding at Kō whai Park.

McGrath played a lone hand and scored 60 not out from 76 balls to get Old Boys to 110-6 in 28.2 overs, as they overhauled Feilding’s first-innings total of 106-8 in 30 overs.

Feilding bowlers Sam Sherriff and Flynn McMillan took 2-19 and 2-28, respective­ly. Earlier, Cole Freeman top scored for Feilding with 22. Stephen Bennett took 3-24 for Old Boys and leg-spinner Brynn Cleaver took 2-28.

United beat Dannevirke by eight wickets via the Duckworth-Lewis Method at Dannevirke Domain.

Dannevirke batted first and were bowled out for 168 in the final over, where Thomas Kuggeleijn top scored with 43 and Jayme Knightly scored 29 not out down the order.

Freyberg (182-8) beat Palmerston North Boys’ High School (176-6) by six runs.

United lead the women’s twenty20 competitio­n despite having the bye.

Marist are second after a comfortabl­e 55-run win over Palmerston North Girls’ High School Kā rearea at Wallace Park.

Feilding went into third place with a five-wicket win over Freyberg at Timona Park.

Batting first, Freyberg made 94-7 with Joanna Stevens scoring 36 and Sarah Calkin 22.
