Road to industry: milestone marked

- Manawatū reporter

The first stage of the Turners Rd extension in Feilding, making more industrial land available, has been opened, and the connections and growth it’s brought celebrated.

The $12.47 million project is enabling existing businesses and those that are set to develop, to access 24 hectares of industrial-zoned land in the town.

Enterprises already making use of sites near the Kawakawa Rd connection, Central Demolition, BuiltSmart, Central ITM, and Reese Agri, were joined by contractors, consultants, Manawatū District Council officers and elected representatives at an official opening on February 26.

Mayor Helen Worboys said the attraction of businesses to the area added to the long-term economic growth within the district.

“These economic benefits are why council made the decision to lead this industrial growth project, and underpin our commitment to continue with the construction of stages 2 and 3 within our upcoming long term plan.”

The council has included the funding for the remainder of the road extension within years two and three of the draft long term plan 2024/34, $3.99m and $8.47m respectively, which would be released for public consultation this month.

The project is funded via development contributions.

In discussing the collaborative relationship between all parties involved in the project, Worboys said the positive impact of the collaboration between council, businesses, contractors and consultants had been pleasing to see, and she was looking forward to the opening of the completed road in the future.
