After taking her last fight with just four days’ notice, Manawatū boxer Sequita Hemingway feels much better prepared for the rematch against Che Kenneally this weekend.

Kenneally and Hemingway are fighting in Ipswich, Australia on Saturday for the vacant WBA Oceania heavyweight title.

The pair fought on the Gold Coast in October for the ANBF Australasian heavyweight title, with Kenneally winning by split decision.

Snapback Boxing gym’s Hemingway said, last time she wasn’t ring fit as she came into the fight with just four days’ notice, but was feeling much better prepared for the upcoming bout after a full block of training.

“I think we cut 10kg in four days, so that was [what went wrong last time]. But other than that we were prepared.

“We had been training, but dropping 10kg in four days [wasn’t good].” She said training had been going well.

Having another title on the line was a motivating factor for her too.

“No-one goes in to come second. So I’ve just got to go in there and give it my all and hopefully we can bring that belt home.”

She expected Kenneally to have more speed than when they last fought.

The fight was scheduled to be over 10 rounds, and if it goes the distance it would be the first time Hemingway had done that many rounds.

Hemingway’s record is now two wins and four losses, but she is the New Zealand national (Pro Box NZ) heavyweight champion after beating Maria Hunt in August.

Kenneally is a two-division ANBF Australasian champion, winning in both the heavyweight and light heavyweight divisions.
