- Alecia Rousseau

A 31-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the murder of Hori Gage in August, 2023.

In a statement, Detective Senior Sergeant David Thompson said yesterday the man had been charged with murder and had been remanded in custody.

“Today’s arrest follows an extensive investigation by Palmerston North Police, with several people already before the court in relation to events around Hori’s death.”

Thompson said police would like to thank the public who did the “right thing” by Gage and his family and provided police with information that assisted their investigation.

A police spokesperson said the man was due to reappear in court next month.

Gage was fatally shot in the driveway of his Highbury home in front of his partner and kids on August 6.

In March, a 26-year-old man had been charged with the manslaughter of Mongrel Mob member Gage.

The man had interim name suppression and was accused of driving two other men to and from the murder scene.

He had been remanded in custody, due to reappear back at Palmerston North Court on March 22.

The two men he was accused of driving had also been charged with murder. One of these men was a 38-year-old, who appeared in the Hamilton District Court on March 7. This man was also granted name suppression.

At the time, Thompson said the four arrests had been made across Foxton, Feilding, Whanganui and Palmerston North.

Three other people aged, 16, 18 and 33 had been jointly charged with arson. This was in relation to a burnt out vehicle found on Aranui Rd after the shooting.
