-

Three men have been arrested following a spate of burglaries at residential and commercial properties in Marton and Bulls. Senior Sergeant Dave Fraser, Rangitīkei response manager, said over the last three days police have conducted “several” search warrants at properties in Marton, arresting the three men and recovering stolen property. The search warrants were in relation to several burglaries at residential properties and one commercial property in Marton and Bulls, which occurred over the last half of last week. In one particular robbery at the Bulls Dairy on April 27, the offender assaulted the shop owner before stealing multiple items. “The type of crime is not common in the Rangitīkei District, and we understand the community has been on edge as a result.”

Fraser said police have put in “long hours” to identify, locate and apprehend those responsible. “We will continue to work hard to keep those in our community, and their belongings, safe.” As a result of the search warrants, a 38-year-old man has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear in the Marton District Court on Wednesday, May 8 on a number of charges including assault with intent to rob and assault with intent to injure. Charges are also being considered for two other men, aged 21 and 35. Fraser urges the community to continue to report any suspicious activity in the area. “Any piece of information, no matter how small you think it may be, can assist in our investigations.” if you see any suspicious or unlawful activity contact police immediately.
