Prima Facie - Something has to change

-

Prima Facie by Suzie Miller. Centrepoint Theatre, May 11 to 26. 6.30pm Wednesday, 7.30pm Friday to Saturday, 4pm Sunday.

Centrepoint Theatre is presenting a one-woman show that should inspire people to have an important conversation about the far-reaching effects of sexual assault.

Prima Facie by Suzie Miller is this month running at Centrepoint.

It stars Mel Dodge (Miss Brontë), is directed by Lyndee-Jane Rutherford (Rants in the Dark), with original music by Briar Prastiti (2023 composer in residence at Lilburn House and NZSM).

This show has sold out throughout New Zealand, Australia, the West End, and is soon to land on Broadway.

Prima Facie won The Olivier award for best new play 2023.

With staggering statistics around sexual assault in New Zealand, this play gives people an insight into the way sexual assault rips the carpet out from under them and gives a voice to those who find themselves unable to speak.

Tessa is a criminal defence lawyer at the top of her game and loving it: defending, cross-examining and playing the rules of the law to win.

But when the tables are turned, she finds herself at the mercy of the system she has dedicated her life to.

Shadows of doubt are illuminated, making you question, who is our legal system serving?

Turning the courts of law into a different kind of stage, this sharp, witty, and gripping one-woman show continues an urgent conversation for New Zealand.

Prima Facie should be an important show to see for all, especially lawyers, politicians, counsellors, psychologists, educators and advocates.

Prima Facie asks questions that can inspire people to make it a time of growth.

Prima Facie deals with the theme of sexual assault and how the legal system deals with these cases. Audiences are recommended to be 15+.
