SPCA Auckland fixing cats for free

- STAFF REPORTERS

Get your cats desexed for free this winter thanks to SPCA Auckland.

The animal welfare organisation is offering free cat desexing for cats in certain suburbs in June.

With about 5000 kittens coming to the SPCA each year, it’s focusing on a desexing programming to areas responsible for a significant number of the kittens.

While its highest numbers of cats usually arrive during warmer months, the mild climate has extended the breeding season and there’s still a high number of cats being born.

Cat owners in Flat Bush, Henderson, Mangere, Manurewa, Massey, Mt Roskill, Mt Welling- ton, Otahuhu, Otara, Papakura, Papatoetoe, and Pukekohe can take advantage of the free service.

The organisation hopes to prevent a significant number of animals being born in Auckland with no home and nowhere to go but the SPCA to reduce strain on staff and volunteers.

It has also announced it’s looking to expand its services to keep up with the high volume of animals by opening a facility in north-west Auckland.

As the city’s population grows it’s becoming harder to reach animal welfare complaints from its Mangere facility.

Free desexing appointments are limited and available until June 23. Call SPCA Auckland on 256 7310 to book early.
