Decorating a wall without frames
Adding a personal touch to a room can be as simple as hanging something on the wall. It doesn’t have to be a traditional artwork either. There are many other ways to add colour, texture and a homely feel without a frame. Plates
Simple decorative plates can make a smart and elegant statement or lend a bolder, more creative air if the plates are colourful and intricate. Dining and living areas are the natural locations. If using plates of different sizes and shapes, vary them throughout a wall display but as a rule keep larger pieces toward the bottom so the arrangement doesn’t feel top heavy. Specially made plate hangers will help you fix them to the wall.
Hats
Hats come in many shapes and sizes with styles that often reflect particular moments in history or places in the world. This can make a hat wall display a fascinating talking point as well as eyecatching. For the best effect, select hats that are a similar colour, or pair neutral shades together. There is no need for a single hat to be a central focus. In fact, it helps if the hats are a similar size.
Tapestries
Tapestries have had a revival in interior design and are no longer just for old castles and people who like 80s-themed tigers on velvet. They can bring a colourful, textured warmth and will often occupy a good amount of wall space. Entryways and halls are popular locations due to the welcoming effect they have on visitors passing through. Patterned rugs and woven flax panels are other options, or you could try a blanket hung behind a bed like an oversized headboard. Mirrors
It is well known that mirrors make a space appear larger, but you don’t have to achieve this with just one large mirror. You can create a wall of mirrors to really grow out the space. Consider using mirrors with different shapes but similar sizes to make the wall story consistent.
Alternatively, use mirrors with the same shape but different sizes. Baskets
Artisan baskets can bring beautiful circular patterns and an earthy warmth to a room. Look for baskets without handles and present them like plates for an inviting arrangement that is deceptively easy to pull off. Go for a mix of sizes.
Plants
It’s always a good idea to have a few plants around, and even better to turn them into a unique wall display. Look for succulents, herbs and other durable plants that don’t need a lot of soil.
