Look who’s talking: Wairau Pharmacy Relay for Life team
What was the inspiration behind putting a team together for this Relay for Life event?
Here at Wairau Pharmacy we have a great team spirit both at work and outside of it. We are an energetic and positive group that enjoys supporting and caring for our local community.
There is a very supportive environment at the event; what is it about the relay that attracts people to enter do you think?
I think it is the cause that attracts people. Everyone has been touched by cancer in some way and I think the sense of camaraderie helps to bring everyone together.
What do you think will be the main challenges on the night?
As a group of women who have a sweet tooth, we feel our biggest challenge will be keeping up the chocolate supplies.
What are you looking forward to the most?
We are looking forward to getting out there and raising awareness about this fantastic event and supporting each other through the relay.
Are any of your team members doing this in memory of someone specific and how important is that to you as a team?
We have all been affected by cancer in some way. Some of us have lost loved ones to cancer and others have loved ones going through a diagnosis currently.
We are also doing this in memory of our patients who have become like family to us.
What would you say to someone who is considering entering the Relay for Life?
It is all about commemorating those who have lost their life to cancer and celebrating those who have survived.
It’s about raising money and awareness so there is help there for those who need it when they need it.
The Relay For Life Marlborough 2019 will take place from February 23-24 at Giesen Sports & Events Centre, in Renwick, between 4pm and 6am.
