Marlborough Express - Weekend Express
A moving experience
‘‘‘We’re encouraging teams to register now to join us for this inspiring event, that provides a forum to celebrate cancer survivors and their carers.’’
A relay event which will see participants walking and running for 12 hours throughout the night, will carry the message that ‘cancer doesn’t stop, and neither should we.’
The Marlborough Relay for Life event is to be held at the A&P Park in March, and is the main fundraiser of the Cancer Society for the support of their work.
‘‘We’re encouraging teams to register now to join us for this inspiring event, that provides a forum to celebrate cancer survivors and their carers, remember loved one’s lost to cancer, and helps fight back by fundraising to provide our local cancer information and support services,’’ said Marlborough Cancer Society manager Felicity Spencer.
This brief rings true for Donna Holder, team leader of the Julie’s People team.
‘‘I did the Relay for Life with my sister and Mum about 15 years ago, when it was down at Lansdowne Stadium, in support of my Mum who is a survivor.’’
‘‘In 2015 my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer, and sadly lost the fight in January 2019. She fought hard and strong, but always with a smile on her face and a ‘got it’ attitude, so we put a team together in honour of her.
‘‘She was loved by so many that our family has got a lot bigger with the amazing people that she surrounded herself with, and this is how #juliespeople began,’’ Holder said.
