Waitohi Picton ferry redevelopment Dublin Street and Broadway road closures
Work to relocate underground services on Dublin Street between the intersections of Devon, Market and Auckland Streets is underway so that early next year work can begin on the Dublin Street overbridge.
This bridge will greatly help the flow of traffic through the southern part of Waitohi Picton, and facilitate a better connection to the town centre. It includes a shared path to enable walking and cycling connections between the town centre and Queen Charlotte Drive intersection.
For safety reasons, Broadway has had to be closed to through traffic while Dublin Street is out of action, to avoid congestion at the Auckland Street intersection.
The detour for drivers coming in and out of Picton involves following Auckland Street for a direct route into the town centre, or Kent Street from Nelson Street for direct access to the port area.
Work is expected to be completed and roads reopened by 23 December at the latest. The project team is mindful of busy times, particularly the days when cruise ships are in town and will do what they can to open up roads on those days.
