Alliance Group chief executive David Surveyor is leaving the co-operative and returning home to Australia in 2023.

However, he’s confident he’s leaving the business in a much stronger financial position.

Chairman Murray Taggart said he regretfully accepted Surveyor’s resignation last week after eight years in the role, but understood his desire to pursue other opportunities.

‘‘David has demonstrated strong leadership and personal dedication for the benefit of our farmer-shareholders and the Alliance team.

‘‘I sincerely thank David for his tremendous contribution throughout his tenure,’’ Taggart said.

Surveyor joined the Alliance Group in 2015 which was a challenging period for the company and the industry.

He set out a transformation strategy to build a stronger co-operative focused on maximising operational efficiency and capturing more market value.

Alliance Group has now returned to a position of strength with increasing revenue and profitability, a strong balance sheet and a record safety performance.

There had also been an increase in shareholder numbers and growth in the cooperative’s brands and premium products.

‘‘David leaves Alliance Group well positioned for the future, and we wish him all the very best as he seeks out new challenges in his professional life.’’

Surveyor said he had thoroughly enjoyed his time with the company and was sad to be leaving Alliance Group.

‘‘But I know that the time is right for me and my family.

‘‘I feel positive knowing I leave with the co-operative in a much stronger position.

Surveyor said he was proud of the way the team has worked together to deliver its strategy and he thanked the Board for the support over the past eight years.

‘‘What is important now is the future and getting results for New Zealand farmers.

‘‘Alliance has an exciting future as it continues its transformation with the next generation of leadership.’’

Surveyor was also a director of The Lamb Company (North America) and a member of the Meat Industry Association.

He will leave the company by the end of April 2023.

The Board will now commence an executive search for Surveyor’s replacement.
