Renwick alert on water

- Ian Allen

Renwick residents are getting an early warning; be careful about water use or face the prospect of water restrictions this summer.

Residents in the town were using so much water at the weekend that reservoir levels were dropping.

Marlborough District Council operations and maintenance engineer Stephen Rooney said if water use continued at that rate, there would not be any option but to introduce restrictions. He asked people to be sensible.

‘‘Don’t leave hoses running unnecessarily and, when watering the garden, try to avoid the peak use times of mid-morning and early evening.

‘‘It would help if gardeners with timers on their irrigation systems would set them for after 9pm.’’

Council staff were monitoring water supplies for the town each day and Mr Rooney said if everyone co-operated restrictions might not be necessary.
