Blenheim man ordered to repay football club

-

A Blenheim man has accepted joint responsibility with his partner for using supermarket vouchers stolen from a sports club.

Jonathan James Bradley, 21, and his partner Hannah Fyfe, 22, spent the Pak ’n Save vouchers on gift cards, which they later spent at The Warehouse on July 30.

The vouchers were taken in a burglary at the Marlborough Foot- ball office in Blenheim the weekend before. Bradley and Fyfe were jointly charged with three counts of using a document to obtain a pecuniary advantage, and one of receiving stolen goods.

Fyfe admitted the charges in August, while Bradley admitted his charges at the Blenheim District Court on Monday.

The pair bought them from a friend in exchange for $100 cash and a ride to Nelson, a police summary said. Police stopped Fyfe and Bradley driving on Grove Rd in Blenheim and arrested them. They told police their friend said he got the vouchers from Work and Income.

Bradley was also charged with possession of a bong and a gram of cannabis, which he admitted on Monday.

Judge David Ruth convicted Bradley and sentenced him to 80 hours’ community work.

Bradley was also ordered to pay back $420, and the cannabis and bong was to be destroyed.

Fyfe was convicted last month and remanded on bail so her house could be assessed for an electronically-monitored sentence.
