Protocol breach handled: Warriors

- RUGBY LEAGUE

The Warriors say they have already dealt with a breach in team protocol by rugby league forward Bodene Thompson, following allegations of group sex by an Australian stripper.

In an interview with Sydney’s Daily Telegraph, Belinda Medlyn opened up about the group sex culture in the NRL, saying there is a ‘‘pack mentality among players’’.

Medlyn said she had consented to group sex with Thompson, while also revealing they had a secret sexual encounter in the team hotel as a team-mate watched on the night before the Warriors took on the Bulldogs in Sydney on September 6, 2015.

The report said Thompson snuck Medlyn past coaches at the Pullman Hotel, telling her: ‘‘We’re not allowed girls in the hotel ... sneak in.’’ It added that the pair’s 15-month-old son was conceived that night as a team-mate looked on.

Their son is now at the centre of a dispute over finances to raise him, the newspaper reported. Ms Medlyn said Thompson has been late in some payments of child support and wants more money. However, Thompson’s lawyer told the Telegraph that his client does not owe ‘‘a single cent’’.

The Warriors have issued a statement confirming they have been aware of a personal matter involving Thompson and an expartner.

Chief executive Cameron George said Thompson and his lawyer had kept them fully informed while the club had also notified the NRL Integrity Unit about the matter. George said Thompson had breached team protocol, which had been dealt with.

He said the club had received confirmation from Thompson’s lawyer that he was up to date with child support payments, which had also been verified by documentation from the Department of Human Services in Australia.
