Trust seeking more members

- By NICOLA STEWART

Matamata Futures Trust: It’s all in the name.

Matamata Futures is a charitable trust set up to help ensure the future of the Matamata area.

Trustee Frank Healey said the board was committed to providing benefits to the people of Matamata and to supporting community facili- ties. “Matamata is the luckiest little town in the world and there is so much opportunity for growth.”

One of Matamata Futures’ major focuses is development of the Matamata Sports Centre.

It has presented a number of ideas to council.

The trust runs a funding facility for Pohlen Hospital, which allows the hospital to borrow money on flexible lending terms. It also supported Firth Primary school with funding for the school’s dental clinic.

Although the trust was established by the MatamataPiako District Council after the sale of the former maternity hospital on Elizabeth St, it remains completely independent.

Trustees are Alan Candy, Kevin Stanley, Bruce Magan, Frank Healey and Russell Alexander, soon to be replaced by Lynette Stanley.

With membership numbers down, the trustees are looking for more residents to join.

Anyone interested in being on the trust is welcome to attend the annual meeting, to be held at Candy Gillespie at 5.30pm on October 10.
