Recognise the efforts of our sportspeople
Time is running out to recognise our sporting heroes.
Come on clubs, it’s time to recognise all the sportspeople and hard-working, talented officials, coaches and administrators in the Matamata-Piako District.
Time is running out to nominate for the 2012 Metso Matamata-Piako District Sports Awards.
The area has a strong tradition of producing high calibre sportspeople and nominating them is a great way to recognise their achievements and acknowledge their efforts and sacrifices. There are 10 categories: Service to sport Administrator of the year Club of the year Coach of the year Referee/umpire of the year Team of the year 40+ sportsperson of the year Junior sportsman of the year Junior sportswoman of the year Sportsperson of the year Nominations forms are
online at sportwaikato.org.nz.
They are also available at your local district council office in Matamata, Morrinsville or Te Aroha.
Nominations close on October 5, at 5pm.
Friday,
Keep active – try to get 30 minutes of moderate exercise every day.
Use the stairs instead of the lift and enter a team in a local running event or a business house sport competition.
Increase the bright colours – colour meals with naturally green, red and orange fruits and vegetables.
What are you drinking? Swap blue top for green top milk and be aware of the high amounts of sugar in soft drinks and fruit drinks. Water is a great option and it’s cheap too.
Stop smoking – it’s the most important thing you can do for your heart at any age.
Healthy snacking – avoid snacks with high fat, sugar and salt content. Try yoghurts, fruit, crackers, nuts, dried fruit and low-salt soups.
If you are concerned about your own heart health, take The Heart Foundation’s online Risk Quiz at heartfoundation.org.nz.
Clubs,
schools
and
activity providers have nominated more than 400 sport, recreation and physical activity volunteers who were invited to attend one of three luncheons in Matamata, Morrinsville and Te Aroha.
On behalf of those organisations, Sport Waikato wants to say “thanks” for all the time and effort the volunteers have put in to making sport happen in our communities.
So next time you see your children’s coach, the person who works behind the scenes doing administration, or the ref on the sideline, how about saying thanks too.
It’s easy to do and means a lot to the people involved.
