Quiz your co-op candidates

Matamata Fonterra Shareholders’ councillor Grant Wills says the upcoming Fonterra Director Roadshow is a great opportunity for farmers to look director candidates in the eye and ask them the tough questions before they cast their votes in the Fonterra elections.

The week-long roadshow, which comes to Matamata on December 3 at 1.30pm at Daltons Plantation, provides Fonterra farmers with the opportunity to meet, question and listen to the contenders for Fonterra’s top table.

‘‘This year’s director elections is an important one for the cooperative,’’ Mr Wills said.

‘‘We have 11 candidates vying for three seats on the board and there is guaranteed to be at least one new director elected.

‘‘It is shareholders’ responsibility to make an informed decision that benefits their coop.’’

Mr Wills believes it is vital that shareholders understand which of the candidates is best placed to help the coop get to where it needs to be and that attending the roadshow will help.

‘‘Participating in the roadshow is also a part of demonstrating our right of ownership and control, and I encourage shareholders to continue their engagement with their co-op by attending the meeting.’’

Mr Wills says that to ensure the roadshow remains a fixture in their area it is important for local shareholders to support it.

‘‘Shareholders have asked for the meeting, we have received it and if we want to keep it here we have to get there in numbers. There are 11 meetings throughout the country so we are fortunate to have one in Matamata,’’ Mr Wills says.
