Shine and show up in favourite wheels

- By NICOLA STEWART

Matamata’s first ever Car O’rama is set for this Saturday and it’s not just top show cars that will be on display.

Anything with wheels and an engine is welcome on the day and organisers are encouraging the whole family to come along.

Creator Ricky Ireland said the event was a chance for local car enthusiasts to come together and show off their wheels.

‘‘So many great cars are built in sheds and there are a lot of great car builders in this town,’’ he said.

‘‘We wanted to bring anyone with a passion for anything on wheels together for the day.

‘‘Even if it’s just a young guy with his first car – if he’s proud of it, we want to see it.’’

Upwards of 150 cars are expected and some top New Zealand show cars, including The Joker ute and the Walker’s Mustang, will be on display.

The event is open to the entire community and Mr Ireland said it will be a strongly family- oriented day.

There will be a bouncy castle, face painting and games, and entertainment for all ages as well as spot prizes and give aways.

There are a 100 trophies and awards on offer including people’s choice and judge’s favourite.

Mr Ireland said he was grateful for the huge support from local businesses.

Gates open at 9am at 2271 Mangawhero Rd and there is a gold coin donation for walk ins. Cars are $10.
