- By NICOLA STEWART nicola.stewart@wrcn.co.nz

Cars of all shapes, states and sizes will be on display at the second annual Matamata Car-O-Rama next Saturday.

Anything with wheels and an engine is welcome on the day, including trucks, motorbikes, tractors and farm machinery.

The event is put on by the Matamata Rod and Custom Club and organisers said it was a day for the whole family.

Activities include a tug of war, car limbo, piston and rotary tosses, tyre change races and spark plug contests.

There will also be food stalls, local entertainment, trade stands, spot prizes and a bouncy castle for the kids.

The Matamata Volunteer Fire Brigade has also offered to run a demonstration for the crowds.

There are 50 trophies to be won and spectators will vote towards the People’s Choice Award. A Judge’s Choice Award will also be presented.

Creator Ricky Ireland said the event was a chance for local car enthusiasts to come together and show off their pride and joys.

‘‘Even if it’s a young guy with his first car – if he’s proud of it, we want to see it.’’

Gates open at 9am at 222 Mangawhero Rd and there is a gold coin donation for spectators. Proceeds will be donated to the Matamata Volunteer Fire Brigade. To enter a car is $10 and bikes are $5. For more information contact Terrence on 027 277 6873.
