Rent-free space helps out men

- By NICOLA STEWART

Five months after the Matamata Community Men’s Shed officially opened its doors, the committee is planning a change of address.

The shed – a place for men over 60 to work on projects, share skills and meet people – will be moving to Rewa St, behind the Redoubt Bar and Eatery, by mid April.

Chairman Jim Gibbs wanted to thank Comag management for providing them with a space rent-free for their first six months.

‘‘We would not have gotten off the ground without their help,’’ he said.

The Men’s Shed is running a stall at the Matamata Markets on April 12, where they will sell furniture and have made.

Mr Gibbs said they would love to have more members on board and anyone interested was welcome to head along to the markets or contact him on 027 230 0926.

One of the shed’s latest projects was making sandwich boards for the Matamata Society of Arts to help them promote their latest art exhibition.

President Margaret Dwyer wanted to thank the club for their help, as well as Wendy Dalrymple for helping out with the signwriting.

The society’s exhibition will feature the work of local artists and run for two weeks at the Pumpkin Heads Art Studio from Monday, March 21.
