Warm weather for club’s closing day

- MATAMATA BOWLS

Our Club Closing Day for the summer season was held recently in perfect summer weather with the occasional cold breeze.

Over 30 members arrived and two games of progressive bowls was held prior to lunch, which was provided by the club.

Winners for the day were skips Zelda Clements, with runnerup Lyn Lopez and 3rd place Rita Donderwinkel.

Threes: John Best with runnerup Jane Bartelink and 3rd place Bob Squibbs.

Twos: Ian Lyons with runnerup Barbara Keys and 3rd place Frances Canty.

Leads: Adam Morgan with runnerup Bob Addison and 3rd place Tibor Kocsis.

They were all given suitable prizes and this was followed with award prizes for the season’s championship winners.

Prizes for Thursdays ‘‘Rollups’’ were: 1st, Mark Patterson and 2nd, Tony Donderwinkel.

Saturdays ‘‘Rollups’’ were 1st, Bob Squibbs and 2nd, Mark Patterson.

This marks the end of our outdoor bowling season and we look forward to seeing all our members, and hopefully invite some new members next season.

Closing day doesn’t mean the end for bowls altogether though.

Indoor bowls will start at the Matamata bowling club rooms from Thursday, May 4 at 1pm.

We welcome new people to come and see what it’s all about.

Visitors who come along will find our club members to be warm and welcoming and the bowling fun but also competitive.
