Matamata police are warning parents to keep an eye on their children following a shoplifting incident recently. The kids involved were only seven and eight years old and were ‘‘detained’’ for shoplifting toys from a shop. There were also a number of other younger people riding their bikes on footpaths around the centre of town at a time when the CBD is becoming busier with shoppers and visitors. House burglaries and thefts of motorbikes continue to feature highly in the weekly police reports and you can read the latest from sergeant Blair Hayde on page 9. On to more positive matters now. The guest artists for the next Matamata Rotary Concert by the Lake have been confirmed. Well-known Kiwi international singer and songwriter Bic Runga will be the headline act at the event which serves as a major fundraiser for Matamata Rotary. Joining her, and returning to the event once again, will be singer Jamie McDell who was recently in the US where she recorded a new country blues album.
