Bic to headline at lake concert
A New Zealand music Hall of Fame member will headline the 2018 Matamata Rotary Concert by the Lake.
New Zealand singer/ songwriter Bic Runga has signed on to perform at the annual lake concert.
The concert, held at on Peter and Ineke Thissen’s Jondor Road farm, is one of the major fundraisers for Matamata Rotary.
Its unique lake side setting, surrounded by a natural amphitheatre of willow trees and cliff face, attracts people from across the North Island.
Musicians perform on a pontoon, overlooking the lake.
Runga is one of New Zealand’s most accomplished musicians.
She has been been awarded nearly every New Zealand music honour and is the only individual to receive 20 Tui awards ( New Zealand Music Awards).
In 2016 she was inducted into the New Zealand music Hall of Fame.
Joining Runga is returning artist Jamie McDell, who has been affiliated with the concert since its inception.
The talented 25-year-old from Auckland has released numerous singles, one of which was certified gold in New Zealand.
Earlier this year McDell travelled to Nashville to record a new country blues album.
Completing the trio is Auckland jazz band Two Many Chiefs, who made their lake side debut this year.
Group members Dillon, Lou’ana and Cam bring a unique and dynamic performance to the table.
Matamata Rotary president Peter Vossen says every year the line-up gets better and better and he is excited for the 2018 concert.
‘‘With Bic Runga joining Jamie McDell and Two many Chiefs, it’s a great line up of talented New Zealand musicians.
‘‘People just need to pack a picnic, a blanket and settle in for a great afternoon.
‘‘We have a really good team putting the event together, steered by Don Stanley.
‘‘As soon as one concert ends, planning begins for the next one, working around what did work, what didn’t.’’
