SMART THINKING

An aural & visual spectacular is set to be staged in the glorious setting of Uluru.

An audiovisual spectacular is set to be staged in the incredible setting of Uluru.

It’s a project of such rare audacity it’s never been attempted before – until now. Opera Australia’s Head of Music Tahu Matheson will conduct some of Opera Australia’s top singers in a tour de force experience, set against the visual backdrop of the country’s most famous rock formations.

“This concert is completely unique,” says Matheson. “I have never heard of anything like this – to take an orchestra out there in the middle of nowhere … to such an intensely evocative and spiritual place.”

The audiovisual feast will only be enjoyed by a select few: the one- off concert will be limited to 600 guests. The concert will include famous arias from composers including Bizet, Puccini, Rossini and Verdi. The air will be filled with such well-loved pieces as ‘Flower Duet’ (from Lakmé), ‘Toreador Song’ ( Carmen) and ‘Nessun Dorma’ ( Turandot): all set against the astonishing backdrop of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and the 50,000 spindle lights of Bruce Munro’s art installation, ‘Field of Light’.

“Guests can expect a repertoire of the most glorious tunes and beautiful words,” enthuses Mathson.

“With singers like Natalie Aroyan, Lorina Gore, Angela Hogan, Diego Torre and Haotian Qi, it is going to be exceptional.” ayersrockresort.com.au/OA
