WASTE NOT

Kiwi company wins international recognition for their rubbish idea.

-

Kiwi company Hideaway Bins has won a prestigious international Red Dot Design Award for its innovative kitchen bin design. Their winning product, the Concelo, is a kitchen waste bin designed to overcome common issues – including grime and odours.

The Silverdale- based company, run by daughter- and-father team Jamie and Allen Bertelsen, hopes to change the way the kitchen design industry looks at rubbish management, as homeowners become more aware of the need to deal with waste in a smart way. Concelo not only looks and runs like a kitchen drawer, it also features a self- closing lid, which is hidden from sight inside the cabinet and helps to control odours. This unique lid is cleverly designed and can be removed for cleaning with the push of a button.

The recognition for Hideaway Bins puts it in good company – other notable New Zealand winners have included Air New Zealand for their Skycouch design, and Fisher & Paykel for their Gas on Glass Cooktop and 60cm Built- In Oven.
