Singita Kwitonda Lodge and Kataza House have opened in Rwanda, sitting on the edge of Volcanoes National Park. Singita Kwitonda Lodge, named after a legendary silverback gorilla known for his humility and gentle nature, is made up of a collection of small buildings laid out along the natural contours of the ground. The design and construction of the lodge and villa followed Singita’s stringent sustainability ideals, which informed everything from the materials used and site design to energy and water systems and interior design.

A star feature of the ecolodge is The Lodge kitchen – which offers a wide range of largely vegetable-based dishes and local Rwandan favourites, including brochettes (Rwandan-style barbecue), ubuki (banana honey) and mizuzu (fried plantain). Vegetarian fare is popular in Rwanda, with sweet potatoes, corn, beans, fruit and millet among the most common foods in the Rwandan diet. The Lodge also boasts an on-site herb and fruit garden that supplies the kitchens with an array of fresh ingredients, reflected in a farmto-table approach to the menu.
