Dermapen’s international trainer, Dr Andrew Christie talks about what the future holds for beauty.

Forget about turning to make-up and quick skincare fixes to simply hide and cover up imperfections. This year will be the year that we see a move towards treatments that really work to restore health and regenerate skin. “Regenerative medicine reigns supreme in 2020,” says Dr Andrew Christie, international trainer for Dermapen. “These types of procedures work to physically improve the condition and integrity of the skin from the inside out. The process works with your body’s own healing and repair response to create the ultimate bespoke beauty.”

Dr Christie believes that the current industry is undergoing a revolution: we are returning to the fundamental concept that good skin gives good results, but great skin gives even better results. “You can put as much filler as you want into the skin to create volume or contour, however, what is the point if the skin quality and integrity is compromised?” he says. “You just end up with plumper skin that is still in bad condition. There’s no point painting a house if the foundation and the inner structure is falling apart. It might look a little better for a moment or two, but it will quickly collapse.”

Dr Christie says that biorevitalisation – think treatments like Dermapen, PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy) and LED – are able to create the groundwork for healthy, resilient skin and aesthetic procedures.

“These enhance the structure, framework and scaffolding of the extracellular matrix,” says Dr Christie.

Dermapen is one such technology, in particular, that is constantly evolving to help address a number of skin concerns. Dr Christie explains that current Dermapen treatments are able to help with acne, melasma and even rosacea. “Dermapen works like a restoration that sets your skin back to factory settings, allowing it to reboot, revive and recover from the inside out,” says Dr Christie. “We are using needling on more patients and indications in 2020.”

As for what exciting innovations we’ll see in the Dermapen world in 2020, Dr Christie says there’s a new MG Collection on the horizon.

“The mainstay of European aesthetics since the early 1950s to this day is mesotherapy – the process of feeding the skin from the inside out via the placement of bioactives physically into the tissue,” he says. The new MG Collection features meso-vials that can be blended and customised to deliver injection-free, therapeutic doses of actives. “These include retinaldehyde, peptides, telomeres and unprecedented levels of non-cross linked hyaluronic acid.” As well as more efficacious ingredients being applied during Dermapen treatments, Dr Christie says there will be a move towards a more holistic approach to needling. “There will be a greater emphasis on patient wellbeing, comfort and experience.

“Achieving great skin doesn’t have to be a scary experience.”
