Meat-free meat is so last year; now there’s a barrage of fish-free fish alternativ­es. They are made from a range of ingredient­s including soy protein and seaweed; another successful combo is a blend of legumes and algae oil. And we’ve all been inundated with dairy milk substitute­s, but the latest fave on the scene is pea milk made from yellow split peas.

The new wave of plant-based ‘butters’ have been getting good reviews. The vegan products are made from everything from coconut oil and cashew cream.

Meanwhile, Getaway in New York’s Brooklyn offers customers an extensive list of wines, beers and cocktails without a whiff of alcohol. Sans Bar in Austin, Texas, is jumping on the bandwagon, too, with its sober bar.
