STEWART TOWN WINES

-

Stewart Town is named after David Stewart, who along with John Menzies built the Long Gully race during the 1860s gold-mining boom located near the township of Bannockburn, Central Otago. The small vineyards of Stewart Town Wines are owned and operated by the Stainton-Herbert family. Pinot noir is the focus and sole planting. Wines are made by Jen Parr (the award-winning winemaker featured in our March issue): the current release, The Bounder Pinot Noir 2016 ($65), is a delicious wine.

The bouquet is full of finesse and charm, complexity and pinosity. It’s a mix of ripe primary red berry fruits, some dried berry moments, barrel spice and soft dried herbs. Delicious on the palate with a core of red to dark red berry fruits, chalky tannins and salivating acid line, plus judicious use of oak.

Complex and lengthy; a worthwhile investment, with ideal drinking now and through 2022.
