THE MUST-TRY HAIR TREATMENT

In 2020, women around the globe have turned to Google in search of answers to one particular problem: ‘Why is my hair falling out?’ Kérastase Fusio-Dose has long been our go-to treatment for lacklustre locks, and now there’s a new addition to the line-up, Booster Genesis, which targets unwanted hair fall. As well as a shampoo, conditioner and hair mask, the Genesis take-home range includes Serum Anti-Chute Fortifiant, which works from the roots to strengthen weakened hair.

GET GLOWING AT LUNCH

Here are three of our favourite fast-yet-effective lunchtime treatments to try in the lead-up to Christmas.

With locations in Wellington and Auckland, Skintopia’s bespoke treatment leaves your skin glowing. Book in for the Dermalogica ProSkin 30 or ProSkin 60 treatments; you can also add in hydradermabrasion, LED light or contour mask.

If your current skincare routine isn’t cutting it, Caci’s latest treatment, hydradermabrasion, will give your skin the luminous boost it needs. The advanced exfoliation treatment gently cleanses and exfoliates, whisking away dead, dull skin cells to improve texture.

Adding a peel to your beauty routine for the first time can be daunting, however the experts at Lovely by skin institute are a great place to start if you’re a peel newbie. The five Auckland-wide locations offer a number of peels catering to a wide range of skin concerns.

LESS IS MORE

In the skincare world, quality definitely wins over quantity. Or as skincare trainer at Caci, Linda Sharrem says: “More is not always better.” Overdoing it with exfoliating products and loading up skin with active ingredients to combat the silly season can be disastrous, especially when combined with summer sun. An over-exfoliated, over-treated complexion can lead to a compromised barrier. “This allows irritants to get into the skin, leading to sensitivities, inflammation, redness and breakouts,” Sharrem explains. “It also allows hydration and our serums (vitamins and antioxidants) to escape.” Exfoliating two to three times a week will suit most skin types.

EASY DOES IT

Our complexions can surprise us every once in a while. This is particularly true once the festive season rolls around and good habits – healthy eating, drinking plenty of water and getting a great night’s sleep – go out the window. “The saying ‘skin reflects our overall health’ is so true,” says Caci’s Linda Sharrem, adding that our lifestyles can absolutely contribute to accelerated ageing. Less sleep, stress, alcohol consumption and poor work-life balance can all manifest in dehydrated, dull skin, lines and blemishes. To compensate for the Christmas parties and events, Sharrem advises staying on top of your skincare routine, making sure you’re getting your eight hours’ sleep, “and just taking time out to recharge”.
