WHITTAKER’S PACKAGING GOES ECO

-

Chocolate lovers may soon be able to enjoy their favourite treat in a more eco-friendly way with Whittaker’s’ new compostable packaging initiative. Launching first into Wellington, Whittaker’s has chosen the capital to trial its plant-based Peanut Slab packaging that can be disposed of in home compost bins.

Whittaker’s co-chief operating officer, Holly Whittaker says the trial is an important step in the company’s goal to have 100 per cent sustainable packaging by 2025. “It’s important we take the time to thoroughly test potential solutions like this so that we can be sure we are making the right decisions.” For those without home compost bins, the bean-to-bar chocolate maker has partnered with For The Better Good to offer collection boxes for the compostable wrappers at participating stores. The packaging collected will be composted nearby at For The Better’s Edible Earth Urban Micro Farm in Porirua. “We’re delighted that through For The Better Good, our compostable packaging will be composted locally ... to create food for our local community,” says Holly.
