BEHIND THE CAMERA
June Again’s director and writer, JJ Winlove studied at the prestigious Wellington School of Design and despite having extensive short film success, June Again is his first movie-length script. Was Karvan wary of committing to a director with so few runs on the board?
“I’d seen an earlier short of his about two hairs on a soap in a shower – that was hilarious,” she says. “I didn’t really have reservations. Not with Noni and Stephen, a great crew, and a really strong script. We had quite a long rehearsal process and often you are massaging the script during that time, but we didn’t change a thing. It’s a wonderful opportunity ... to be a part of the beginning of someone’s career. Their freshness and excitement rubs off on you. It gives it a big of ’zing’.”
