DRAMA OF NON-DRINKING

I’d like to thank you for your article on the non-drinking culture (‘A Sobering Reality’, June). As a nondrinker it’s always interesting to see people’s reactions when I say I don’t drink. Often they ask me why I don’t drink or become defensive of their own drinking.

I’ve just turned 40 and I know that a lot of my generation see alcohol as a normal part of life. It’s interesting to note, however, that no one asks me why I don’t smoke. Hopefully, one day non-drinking will become as socially accepted as non-smoking. Lynda
