Lighting is an important aspect of any functional laundry: after all, you must be able to see the stains you are trying to remove. If you’re incorporating your laundry into a dimly-lit bathroom, consider concentrating the lighting around the washing machine as a favour to yourself. Auckland-based interior designer Shanly Simpson says: “Invite as much natural light as possible and avoid blocking it with poorly placed curtains or blinds. You can enhance natural light with the addition of mirrors which also can make spaces look larger.”
