WORLD’S FIRST CULINARY CAPITAL
The Caribbean nation of Grenada has been named the world’s first ‘Culinary Capital’ by the World Food Travel Association. Made up of a number of islands, Grenada has a diverse culinary profile and is known as the ‘spice of the Caribbean’ because of the many spices used in food, medicine and wellness. Grenada’s national dish is ‘oil down’, a fragrant stew of meat, breadfruit, coconut milk, herbs and spices. The Grenada Tourism Authority said the award is a great opportunity to market the country as a destination for “foodie travellers”. Erik Wolf, executive director of the World Food Travel Association, said, “Savvy food-loving travellers are adding destinations like Grenada to their bucket lists right now, eagerly waiting for when they can travel again.”
