• Get a blood pressure check – high blood pressure is the top risk factor for stroke.
• Get a cholesterol test and reduce saturated fats in your diet.
• Stay on top of type 2 diabetes.
• Get an atrial fibrillation check, particularly if your heart is beating irregularly or you have palpitations, faintness or breathlessness.
Healthy lifestyle
• Stay active – at least 30 minutes of moderate intense physical activity on most days.
• Eat well – Drop the salt and buy fresh where possible.
• Quit smoking – it doubles your risk of stroke.
• Drink in moderation – no more than two standard alcoholic drinks per day.
