There’s never been a better time to get adventurous with colour in our homes – not only do warmer days ahead make us want to welcome bright hues into our spaces, but colour conveys joy and optimism, things we are in need of right now in particular.

The Wonder palette from the Dulux Colour Forecast 2022 is the ideal palette for the moment. Featuring playful pastels and summery hues like cornflower blue, lilac, lemon, green quartz and rose gold, it’s bound to bring new life to our living areas and lift our spirits. “One of the best things about embracing more colour in your home is that it really gives you the ability to add your own personality to a space,” says Dulux Colour Specialist Davina Harper. “A room or wall painted in a colour you love can really bring a sense of joy each time you walk into a room.”

Living through times where we have been at home more than ever, the Wonder palette can revitalise your rooms if you’re feeling fatigued from staring at those same white walls. It helps to make the home environment a cheerful space and adds some intrigue. Plus, using a range of colours throughout your home can create a different feel within each room, an important consideration particularly if you are working or studying from home. “Colour is also a useful way to help define areas in your home,” says Harper. “For example, you can use colour to help differentiate a dining area or an office nook in an open-plan space.”

While it’s tempting to play it safe with neutrals at home, Wonder invites joyful experimentation. To put the palette to the test, Harper suggests starting small. “If you are unsure about using some of the brighter colours in the Wonder palette, try introducing one or two

of them in easily replaced objects like a vase, cushion or planter,” she says. “Alternatively, try using them in smaller spaces such as a bedroom, toilet or laundry where a bold colour can really add personality and liven up the space. I’d recommend picking your favourite colour from the palette and pairing it with a crisp white like Southern Alps.”

Don’t be afraid to extend the aesthetic of the Wonder palette to the rest of your home décor. Surprising combinations underpin the whimsical nature of this look – for example, try mixing delicate florals with check prints, or sleek contemporary furniture with needlepoint cushions and fluted glass. Harper says nothing is offlimits. “The key to this palette is to have fun and don’t be afraid to play around with different colour combinations and styles.”
