Leaving toilet lids open after flushing can disperse contaminated droplets beyond a metre and remain in the air for 30 minutes, research from the University of South Australia and ANU has found. Thorough hand washing and sanitising are now second nature thanks to COVID-19, but the new study has also highlighted the dangers of open toilet lids, uncovered rubbish bins and defective plumbing drains in spreading infections, particularly in public toilets.
