SHIBORI TECHNIQUE BOOK COVERS

-

Shibori is an ancient Japanese painting technique that creates different patterns by folding and knotting and can turn book covers into works of art. For the book covers you will need cotton or linen, indigo dye for shibori (use according to packet instructions), rubber gloves, two larger barrels (for soaking and dyeing), clothespins and an iron. Cut the fabric to the correct size and fold it (in this example we put accordion pleats). Then iron so that the folds remain and the corresponding pattern is created when dyeing. Then soak the fabric pack in cold water in barrel for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare the paint in the second barrel. Attach the fabric package with clothespins and place it in the dye bath for about 30 minutes. To ensure that the paint gets everywhere, move the packaging more often in the dye bath. Remove, open and hang to dry. Iron again until smooth and cover book with it.
