WHALE OF A TALE
Auckland has a new public art trail with a message about ocean conservation. The World Wildlife Foundation’s Whale Tales public art trail sees 160 whale tail sculptures pop up around the city, inspired by the critically endangered Bryde’s Whale, which lives in the Hauraki Gulf. Created by local Kiwi artists and schools, the sculptures are dotted about parks, city streets and open spaces until 18 April 2022. Events during the trail dates include a Whale Tales light show on the Harbour Bridge, science seminars with Sustainable Coastlines and an auction night, where the larger tails will be auctioned to raise funds for WWF-New Zealand’s conservation work in the Hauraki Gulf. whaletales2022.org
