Here’s a handy tip. If you like a particular wine, why not take a photo of the front and back labels and email them to yourself? Chances are, your wine supplies took a hammering over the summer period. Mine sure did, but isn’t that what wine is for, drinking, sharing and enjoying – hopefully with great food alongside? Most of the wines I opened were excellent – there were a few duds, for sure – but they were all-important wine experiences because they added to my understanding of texture and taste. If you discover a wine that you really like, whether it’s from your supplies or someone else’s, but don’t want to bother with writing down the details and then lose the information, do what I do and take a picture on your phone of the front and back label and email it to yourself, along with the price paid and perhaps a short sentence about why you liked it.

Now you’ll have a copy of the wine label and a date stamp with the picture file.

The image on your phone can be shared with friends who look to you for recommendations ... or when you go back to a wine store, you’ll be able to show the staff what you want to buy.
