The Comité Champagne also implemented a Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne (Viticulture Durable en Champagne) certification in 2014, with the intention of being an official recognition of Champagne winemakers’ environmental performance. It represents the commitment of Champagne winemakers to reduce their ecological footprint in the areas of biodiversity, carbon footprint and water footprint. The Comité Champagne says more than 41 per cent of Champagne vineyards have environmental certification, of which 27 per cent have the Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne certification. It hopes 100 per cent of producers will have an environmental certification by 2030.
