OUR WINNING POEM
Reid says: “My brother and I were touring around the country for our music and we stopped in Wellington. He went out for dinner with his friend and I ate dinner perched on the front balcony of our flat, overlooking the streets below (it was up a hill). The actual inspiration was a red house that stood out in the forest of the other houses on the other side of the hill. The inspirational red house didn’t make it into the poem in the end but it assisted the piece very nicely!”
We love the picture Reid paints of a sleepy Wellington as it winds down from the day’s activities and his appreciation of its visual appeal and tiny details. He invests a very ordinary street scene with beauty and character.
