Bespoke Skin Solutions

-

Personalisation is a growing trend in the beauty world – and it has no better fit than in skincare, because everyone’s skin is different. Skin also reacts differently given your health, environment and lifestyle. We spoke with Lisa Paone, Head of Education derma aesthetics to learn more about how dermaviduals creates products for each individual’s skin needs.

How does the dermaviduals approach make life easier for consumers?

Skincare should never be overwhelming! We create bespoke solutions that are designed to set you and your skin on the right path without having to introduce a huge range of products to your routine. Each dermaviduals skin treatment therapist is educated to identify your individual concerns. In turn, they will provide bespoke skincare formulations designed just for you. With 40 actives to choose from, there’s an ingredient solution for every skin type and condition. Your skin therapist can create customised formulations for your cleanser, serum, cream or mask along with makeup and body products. This means that your skin gets the best selection of actives based on its unique needs. Your skincare can develop alongside your skin health journey and we can achieve results for even the most challenging skin condition.

Why does the brand place focus on protecting the skin’s barrier?

Dermaviduals skincare is built upon the principles and methodologies of corneotherapy. Put simply, corneotherapy is the science of repair and restoration of the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of the skin), which can become compromised due to a variety of internal and external factors.

A well-functioning and intact stratum corneum provides the fundamental building blocks for balanced skin. This means that we put great emphasis on working with the skin and not against it, and providing the building blocks the skin needs.

An analogy we use is to think of the outermost layer of the skin as the ‘roof’ of a house. When the roof is intact, it provides protection to the personal belongings inside the house. If the ‘roof’ is damaged and tiles or mortar are missing, then the personal belongings within will become damaged by UV exposure, pollution, dust and debris ... this is the same with skin!

Why is this so important, particularly in winter?

Dermaviduals uses ingredients that have an affinity with the skin, meaning that they are recognised by the skin and provide long-lasting support. This is possible due to the unique, skin-caring blend of lipids found throughout the entire dermaviduals range. We refer to it as the Derma Membrane Structure (DMS). During the cooler months, the skin may become dryer and sensations of tightness may become more prominent. A dermaviduals Base Cream is jam-packed full of our DMS and is the sure-fire way to replenish and provide skin with critical moisture, while supplementing the skin’s protective barrier. In winter some of our favourite ingredients to blend with are oils. Dermaviduals oils are first pressed, which means that we work with some of the purest and potent formulations, rich in fatty acids such as linoleic acid, which work to fortify and protect the skin’s barrier – providing support during the cooler months. dermaviduals.co.nz
