After his popular pop-up series in 2021’s Visa Wellington On a Plate, chef Vaibhav Vishen has opened a permanent restaurant in the heart of Wellington. Chaat Street is a sharing-style eatery that “brings to New Zealand a whole new vernacular of Indian street foods”. On a mission to break the stereotype that Indian cuisine solely exists in the realm of curries, at Chaat Street, you’ll find a tantalisin­g selection of street-food style dishes – like Kashmiri Kanti, bite-sized pieces of lamb tossed with fresh tomatoes, onions, spices and herbs, or Ram Ladoo, fluffy and crispy lentil dumplings dressed with chutneys and fresh radish.
