In March, Atem was announced as the inaugural winner of the La Prairie Art Award, an acquisitive award championing the work of female Australian artists, which is presented by the luxury skincare house and the Art Gallery of NSW.

For Atem, the opportunity the award presents for the artist to expand her profile internationally is priceless. “There are artists that go their whole lives without ever being celebrated and it’s not because they’re not talented, it’s just the opportunities aren’t there … so there’s a huge part of me that is just like, this is such a one in a million opportunity.”
