Draga Obradovic & Aurel K. Basedow

-

The versatility of resin was unveiled in the work of Draga Obradovic and Aurel K. Basedow, at the Rossana Orlandi Gallery in Milan. An experimental play on colour and transparency, shape and gesture, the couple drew inspiration from art, architecture, fashion and design of the 1970s in pieces such as the Tito bed and Joy Circle lamps. While Obradovic, of Serbian origin, deals with the studio’s design projects, Germanborn Basedow has turned his attention to painting, using resins, pigments and textiles in his work. Says Obradovic: “I am naturally driven to enthusiastic leaps, an ‘anything is possible’ typical Serbian attitude. Aurel is analytical, methodical, his eye focuses on details and issues to solve. To overcome the clash between us, and turn it into a resource, we had to work hard.”
